Balga is one of those Perth suburbs that doesn't get a lot of attention from the city's salon industry, which means residents often end up travelling further than they should for a decent haircut. We'd like to change that, at least a little.
Alex Royer Salon is on Bayley Street in Dianella — about ten minutes from most of Balga, depending on where you're coming from. We're a small, full-service salon and we hear from Balga clients fairly regularly that making the short trip was worth it.
Why People Make the Drive
It comes down to a few things, depending on who you ask. Some people come specifically for the PPD-free colour. They've had reactions before — scalp itching, swelling, contact dermatitis — and found out that PPD was the cause. We use Keune Tinta and Semi colour as standard, which is PPD free, so the risk that comes with conventional colour isn't part of the picture here.
Others come because they want a hairdresser who actually listens. That sounds like it should be the baseline for any salon, but it's not always — and when you've had the experience of explaining exactly what you want and walking out with something different, you start to understand why people drive ten minutes to find someone they trust.
And some people come because we're a proudly LGBTQI+ friendly, judgment-free salon. That matters to a lot of people in ways that aren't always visible on the surface, and it shapes the atmosphere of the place in ways clients notice when they walk in.

The retail products we carry — the Keune So Pure range — are paraben free, sulfate free, cruelty free, and vegan friendly. If you care about what goes on your hair at home as well as in the chair, we can have that conversation honestly rather than just recommending whatever has the best margin.
